Helping Your Early or Struggling Reader: Free Resources and Materials to Use at Home In-Person

Using scientifically based strategies, participants will learn how to support their beginning or struggling reader in learning to read with step by step methods easily done at home.

This workshop will be led by Karin Emerson, a reading specialist with over 30 years of experience working with students, training teachers, and coaching parents and volunteers in how to teach kids to read. Karin created the training for our Reading Bridge volunteer reading mentors. This workshop provides similar information to help families who aren't able to participate in Reading Bridge or who would like additional guidance to provide the same kinds of practice at home.

Participants will receive some starter materials as well as access to a website with more information, instructional videos, and practice activities.

This workshop is geared toward parents/caregivers of students in elementary school.  There is a concurrent program for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade to hang out at the library while their adult is in the workshop.  If you'd like to bring your student to participate in fun activities while you're in the adult workshop, please register them for the children's program here: https://anokacounty.libcal.com/event/10700630
