Maud Lewis 'Cat' Acrylic Painting with Rumriver Art Center In-Person
Maud Lewis (1903-1970) was a Nova Scotian artist who lived a quaint and happy life in a rural area of the Canadian province. Inspired by the beauty and kindness of the Canadian maritime life-style many of her paintings depict things in her immediate surroundings. She was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis and over her lifetime limited mobility and spent most of her life in her small-one room house, which she painted every nook and corner of during her life. Students will be instructed by Rumriver Art Center on how to make an acrylic painting using Lewis’ mark making and paint application as a starting point. All paintings will incorporate at least one of her famous depictions of a cat. This program is suited for children in grades K-12th.
