Blank Verse: Prose and Poetry Showcase In-Person
Blank Verse is a reading series that supports diverse writers of all ages, levels, genres and performance styles including poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction and spoken word. Each event will feature local poetry and prose writers, and time for open mic and conversation. The April 17 event features three poets selected to participate in the Anoka County Library Featured Author Program for 2025:
Heidi Barr is a writer, editor, and wellness coach whose work is founded on a commitment to cultivating ways of being that are life-giving and sustainable for people, communities, and the planet. Author of eight books of nonfiction and poetry, she lives with her family in rural Minnesota.
Sandra Hisakuni Sandra Hisakuni is an English Language teacher who has taught in Japan, China, and the United States. She enjoys spending time in the wilderness and with her children. Sandra’s book, The Northland Beckons: An Illustrated Haiku Journey, was illustrated by her daughter, Sofia. Sandra lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Stanley Kusunoki Stanley Kusunoki is the author of several poetry collections; 180 Days: Reflections and Observations of a Teacher, Items in the News, Shelter in Place: Poems in a Time of COVID-19, and his newest publication-- Social Studies: Poetry as History, Ethics, and Journalism. He co-hosts the Literary Bridges reading series in St. Paul
Blank Verse is sponsored by Cracked Walnut, a chapter of the League of Minnesota Poets, which aims to generate love for live literature, community, and creativity.
