Read to a Dog In-Person
Read out loud to a quiet and friendly trained therapy dog and their adult volunteer during this fun program that's proven to boost children's reading skills. The patient attention these dogs offer helps beginning, struggling, or reluctant readers gain confidence and improve their reading skills. Readers can bring their own books from home or select from options offered by library staff.
Sign up for a 15-minute session with a licensed, trained therapy dog. Program geared towards grades K-3. Registration is required. We highly encourage sessions being one-on-one to minimize potential distractions, though an adult may stay with their reader if desired. Please be checked-in at least two minutes prior to your start time to ensure each reader gets their full 15-minute session in a timely manner.
Anoka County Library strives to ensure that all visitors are able to access library resources, services, and programs. Assistive technology and program accommodations are available at many library locations as outlined here. Please call the library branch hosting the program at least two weeks prior to an event if there are additional accommodations we can provide for you to fully participate.
